Close Your Old Accounts
After you've set up your new accounts with Farmers State Bank, leave your old accounts active long enough to allow outstanding checks or automatic withdrawals to clear. This process may take several weeks. Once you're sure your old bank accounts are inactive, ask your previous financial institution to send you the balance from that account. Then you can destroy your old checks, ATM/debits cards and deposit slips.
Have Any Questions?
How can I get help?
Use our convenient Switch Kit forms to close your old bank accounts and redirect your direct deposit and automatic withdrawals to your new Farmers State Bank account. If you need help filling them out, please stop by or contact any of our conveniently located branches.
How do I find my account numbers?
To find the account numbers for your old account, look at the bottom of your checks for a series of numbers. Bank routing numbers are the first nine digits of the series, the second set of numbers is your old account number, and the last number set is the check number.
How do I sign up for direct deposit?
If you already receive Social Security or SSI benefits and you have a bank account, you can sign up for Direct Deposit by:
- obtaining a password and starting or changing direct deposit online with Social Security (Social Security benefits only), or
- contacting any Farmers State Bank location, or
- calling Social Security toll-free at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778), or
- filling out a Direct Deposit Sign Up Form and bringing it to any Farmers State Bank location.
When you contact us, be sure to have your Social Security number and a personal check or statement from your new account. We will need information from these documents to start your new direct deposit. Also, we recommend that you wait until deposits are coming to Farmers State Bank before you close your old account.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us by e-mail or call (406) 642-3431 and ask for a Customer Service Representative (CSR) if we can help in any way! Thank you for banking with Farmers State Bank.
