Heartland Payment Systems, the sixth largest payments processor in the U.S., revealed that its processing systems were breached in 2008, exposing an undetermined number of consumers to potential fraud.

Farmers State Bank is contacting customers with debit card information that may have been compromised.  Since social security numbers were not compromised, the potential for identity theft is reduced greatly.  As a precaution to prevent card fraud, it’s good practice for all cardholders to regularly monitor their accounts and to notify their issuing financial institution promptly of any unusual activity.

It’s important for cardholders to know they are protected against fraudulent purchases with Visa’s zero liability fraud protection policy.  As always, Visa encourages cardholders to regularly monitor their accounts and to notify their issuing financial institution promptly of any unusual activity.

If you still have questions and concerns, please contact a Customer Service Representative at your nearest Farmers State Bank location.
